How Laser Hair Removal Is Priced

by Robert Mary

The demand for laser hair removal has sky rocketed thanks to improved results and reliability as an effect of advancement in laser technology. One of the first things people ask about is the costs involved in such a treatment. The short answer: it depends. The long answer, well, this is the long answer. As with most cosmetic procedures, pricing is done on a case by case basis depending on a number of factors.

There are three things that affect the final price. Pricing will differ according to where the treatment will be performed, as well as the number of session it will take to completely eliminate all the hair, and the doctor administering the procedure. So it is important to get information about the laser procedure as well as a price quote.

Different clinics use a variety of methods to come up with the final bill for the procedure. Some will charge on based solely on time, and usually by the minute. Some will charge a flat fee for each session or a series of sessions. Others will charge per laser pulse. There are other methods but these are the three most common ways laser hair removal is priced.

Another method is to charge by time. This method of pricing is typically done in increments of fifteen minutes. When you find a clinic that uses this pricing practice, remember the slower its laser equipment and laser technicians are, the less hair you'll have removed in fifteen minutes, and the more expensive your overall treatment will be.

Flat Fee pricing method can be done either on a single treatment or series of treatments basis. The flat fee will be the same for all patients having the same specific area of their bodies treated, regardless of the amount of hair they need removed.

The other form of pricing is the charge per pulse. Laser hair removal works by firing a laser beam to damage hair follicles and each firing is a pulse. Each pulse lasts less than a second and can penetrate about a hundred hair follicles. This seems like a very fair way of pricing since more pulses will be required to remove more hair and therefore a person that only wants light treatment will be charged less than a patient with more hair to be removed.

Among clinics that practice this pricing method, it is almost a given that there will be a minimum number of pulses required to begin. After the minimum number of pulses are paid for and used up, they will charge a decent amount per additional pulse. Typically, the price per pulse beyond the minimum is around one dollar. It tends to become cost effective for repeat sessions because as the hair grows back thinner after multiple treatments, it takes fewer pulses to treat the area.

In the end, the final cost depends on the individual. The area of the body from which the hair will be removed, the thickness and amount of hair, and the total number of treatments required will all play a role in determining the final price of laser hair removal.
